Benoit Paire, France’s last men’s singles hope at Roland Garros, fell in the fourth round. But the host country may still have the men’s doubles champions.

France’s Jeremy Chardy/Fabrice Martin upset 11th seeds Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury 6-4, 7-6(6) to make the semi-finals of their home Grand Slam, hitting nine aces and saving a set point in the second-set tie-break on Court Simonne Mathieu, which is new this year.

“The court is amazing… It was a great atmosphere,” said Chardy, who saw the court for the first time on Tuesday. “Fabrice played amazing, like always.”

The three-time ATP Tour doubles titlists will meet third seeds and Rome champions Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah for a place in the Grand Slam final. “We stayed strong. We know each other so well,” Martin said.

Earlier Tuesday, Kevin Krawietz/Andreas Mies beat Serbians Dusan Lajovic/Janko Tipsarevic 6-1, 6-7(7), 7-6(3). The Germans will next meet the Argentine pairing of Guido Pella/Diego Schwartzman.

“It’s not real,” Krawietz said of the opportunity to play in a Grand Slam semi-final. “Of course it was always a dream, first to play at a Grand Slam, and second to play as far as possible. Now we are in the semis here, it’s unbelievable.”
